SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Fueled by a career-low score of 65 from Nicholas Taliaferro, the Radford men's golf team parlayed a strong third round showing into a T-3^rd place finish at the 2023 JT Poston Invitational on Tuesday.
 
Taliaferro entered the day tied for 33^rd out of the 100 golfers in the field and was superior from his very first hole. The Richmond, Va. native began on the fifth hole in a shotgun start and birdied his first two holes, a precursor to a total of eight birdies on the day.
 
He rose 27 spots and, with a 73 in the first round and a 70 in the second round, finished tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Taliaferro shot 3-under par on Par 4s and had the seventh-most birdies of anyone in the tournament.
 
Patrick Gareiss couldn't quite keep pace in his final 18 holes, but still had a strong tournament, tying for 20^th at -2. His two eagles tied him for the most by an individual in the field and he was sensational on Par 5s, shooting 6-under.
 
Bryce Corbett and Bobby Dudeck matched each other shot-for-shot, tying for 42^nd at +4. Corbett returned to his normal form, shooting a third-round 69, while Dudeck stayed steady with a 71.
 
Nathan Piatt closed out the day with a 75, tying for 64^th.
 
As a team, the Highlanders were third-best on both Par 4s and Par 5s, shooting 6-over par and 16-under par, respectively. Even more impressively, Radford's 60 birdies were the most of any team.
