RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's soccer team fell, 2-0, to Old Dominion despite once again having an impressive first half performance at Cupp Stadium on Friday night.
"I am really disappointed in the result tonight" said Head Coach Chris Barrett. "Again, we played well for large parts of the game, but we gave up a goal against the run of a play off our own corner which we cannot do against good teams. There are a lot of positives in our play, but we are still searching for ways to win games. I have a lot of belief in this group and know that we will be an incredibly good team at some point in the season. We have to respond in a positive way to get a good result at a really good ETSU team on Tuesday."
The first 45 minutes of the game was a stalemate. The Highlanders had a couple of chances in the first half but were just unable to find the back of the net. One major highlight for the Highlanders was when goalkeeper Alex Eydelman made a crucial save around the 32nd minute to keep the half scoreless. Old Dominion were deep in the left side of the penalty box where they had a good opportunity to go up late in the first half. Teagan Dunne hit a low strike to the bottom left corner, but Eydelman made a wonderful diving save.
For the first 12 minutes of the second half, Radford had opportunities but could not capitalize. It was not until the 58th minute when Old Dominion scored from a breakaway by Key White after a Radford Corner. The Monarchs then doubled their lead in the 86th minute after the Highlanders gave up a crucial penalty.
