Williams Earns First Big South Weekly Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that Joi Williams was named the Big South Freshman of the Week earning the first conference award of her career.

Moving into a starting role due to injuries over the last two games, Williams has stepped up to play a significant role in the Highlanders offense. Against a strong Vanderbilt squad this past week, Williams came alive for 11 points. The point total marked her first double digit point performance against a DI opponent. Williams also set career-highs in the game with eight rebounds and 32 minutes played.

Williams is the third Highlander this season to earn a weekly award. The newcomer joins fellow newcomer Terissa Lavoile-Brice who's won the freshman of the week award twice and sophomore Ashlyn Traylor-Walker who's won the player of the week award twice as well.

Williams and the Highlanders are currently preparing for their conference opener which is on the road against High Point. The Highlanders and Panthers will face off tomorrow at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3rd on ESPN+.
