Women’s Basketball Cruises Over Presbyterian Behind 19-Point Performance from Pa’Shence

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program used a dominant second half performance to pull away from Presbyterian Saturday afternoon, a 65-40 win in front of the alumni-heavy crowd.

The Highlanders outscored the Blue Hose 41-24 in the second half behind one of their best third quarters of the season. Pa'Shence Traylor-Walker led the way all afternoon as she drilled five three-pointers to the tune of a career-high 19 points.

Presbyterian started the game out with a 2-0 lead, their only lead of the afternoon, that was quickly taken away by Pa'Shence's first three pointer of the day. Taniya Hanner, who also had a big game, followed her with a fastbreak layup for the 5-2 lead. Hanner struck again, this time from the top of the key for a three to make it an 8-2 lead. Hanner would dish off one more layup for the 10-0 run that gave Radford a commanding lead four minutes in.

Supplied by another three-ball from Pa'Shence and four straight points from Ellie Taylor, Radford looked in good shape with a commanding 19-6 lead after one quarter. That lead would be pivotal for the Highlanders who suddenly ran into offensive struggles throughout the second quarter.

Over the first eight minutes, the Highlanders failed to score and were on a nine-minute scoring drought. Radford's defensive play still kept Presbyterian at bay, however, as the Blue Hose were only able to go on a 9-0 run over that eight-minute stretch. Still up 19-15, it was Pa'Shence who jolted the offense awake with five straight points to close the half with a 24-16 Radford lead.

Not wanting to let the scoring drought linger, it was Ashlyn Traylor-Walker who ignited the offense for a huge third quarter. Ashlyn, who had been held scoreless over the first 20 minutes, came out of the locker room with some fire scoring the first three points off an and-one. Her sister Pa'Shence would follow with a traditional three-pointer that extended the lead to 30-16 and forced a Presbyterian timeout.

The Blue Hose would never quite recover as the Highlanders offense didn't miss a beat the rest of the way. Hanner would go on a five-point run of her own thanks to her second three of the game that put Radford up 35-16. Ashlyn extended the lead to 37-20 and then off a turnover converted a fastbreak three-pointer for another five-point swing and a 40-22 lead with 3:46 left in the third quarter.

Ashlyn would hit yet another three out of the media timeout proving she can only be contained but for so long. Up 47-26 headed into the fourth quarter, Radford kept the intensity for 18 more points. Taylor checked back in the scoring department to get things started and Pa'Shence hit the dagger three that put Radford up 52-30 with six minutes left.

From there, Radford got some scoring in new places including Olivia Wagner, Joi Williams, Terissa Lavoile-Brice and Bria Beverly who all scored shots in the closing minutes after being held scoreless for a majority of the game. When all was said and done, Radford had cashed in on an impressive offensive and defensive showing for the 65-40 final.
