Four Highlanders Sign with Women's Basketball for 2025-26 Season

RADFORD, VA. – Radford Women's Basketball Head Coach Mike McGuire has announced the exciting signing of four Highlanders for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
 
Amanda Mitchell, a 6'2 forward from Willow Spring High School, Claire "Lindsee" Williams, a 6-4 center from Minford High School, Cherish Haywood, a 5'10 guard from Mustang High School and Georgia Simonsen, a 6'0 forward from James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary are the four new Highlanders who will be making their collegiate and Radford debuts next season.

 


Amanda Mitchell
Forward | 6-2 | Fuquay-Varina, N.C. | Willow Spring High School

  • At the high school level, has been named to all-conference teams during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons.
  • Helped lead her team to conference championships during the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 seasons.
  • Played for the Elevate Elite club team where she won the Run For Roses championship.

MCGUIRE ON AMANDA: "Amanda is a strong, versatile forward/post that will bring immediate depth to our program. Amanda has demonstrated the ability to play and contribute on some high-level travel teams. Her activity, rebounding, and energy will help us right away. She will also bring a great personality to our program."

 


Claire "Lindsee" Williams
Center | 6-4 | Lucasville, Ohio | Minford High School

  • Was named to her all-conference first-team and all-district in four seasons.
  • Was also named to the all-state team in one season.
  • Led team in points and blocks in four different seasons, being named the team's Offensive Player of the Year once.
  • Earned four player of the game awards.
  • Played club ball with Always 100 Elite.

MCGUIRE ON LINDSEE: "Lindsee will bring immediate skill and height to our program. We like her ability to see the game from the high post area and believe she will develop into a versatile post player for us. She is also a great teammate and plays the game unselfishly. We believe she is going to be a great cultural addition to our program."

 


Cherish Haywood
Guard | 5-10 | Yukon, Okla. | Mustang High School

  • Named COAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.
  • Named to COAC 6A all-conference team in 2024 and honorable mention after the 2022-23 season.
  • Played club ball with the Lady Jets advancing to the Adidas Girls National Final Four in 2024.

MCGUIRE ON CHERISH: "I am so glad I saw Cherish at the last tournament of the July evaluation period. I was immediately drawn to her presence on the court. Cherish is an elite defender and values playing on that end of the floor. Cherish also has a high ceiling as a wing for us. She can shoot the 3 and is explosive off the dribble. Cherish will be a strong two-way player for us."

 


Georgia Simonsen
Forward | 6-0 | Fairfax Station, Va. | James W. Robinson Jr. Secondary

  • Is a 1,000-point scorer during her high school career.
  • Named to first-team all-district during her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
  • Named to all-region and all-state teams during her sophomore and junior campaigns.
  • Has also earned awards such as District Player of the Year, Region Player of the Year and the Washington All-Met team.
  • Played club ball with Elevate Elite winning the Run For Roses Championship.

MCGUIRE ON GEORGIA: "Georgia is a versatile forward coming to us from Northern Virginia. Georgia is an athletic forward that will impact the game on both ends of the floor. She has had multiple high school games of 20 rebounds or more and that drew me to her. Georgia is competitive and expects to win. Georgia's versatility, competitiveness, and athleticism will be a huge addition."
