SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's contest will be the 56th meeting between Radford and High Point, with the Highlanders earning a 31-24 lead in the all-time series so far.
The Panthers own a slight advantage on their home turf however, going 14-13 whenever the Highlanders come to town. That includes a mini two-game winning streak, with Radford's last win in High Point coming on Feb. 8, 2020.
When the two teams met to kick off Big South play back on Jan. 3 of this year, HPU came out victorious in a decisive 85-71 decision at the Dedmon Center.
DaQuan Smith dropped a career-high 26 points, but Kezza Giffa (24 points) and Duke Miles (23 points) paced the Panthers, who went 26-for-30 from the free throw line as a team.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Well, if there was any doubt the Panthers could compete for a Big South title in Alan Huss' first season at the helm, that doubt is all but gone. High Point enters Saturday's contest with a 21-6 overall record and a league-leading 10-2 record against conference foes.
Completely overlooked in the preseason with nearly the entire roster coming together in short order, High Point boasts the top trio of scorers in the Big South. Duke Miles (18.3 ppg), Kezza Giffa (16.1 ppg) and Kimani Hamilton (15.1 ppg) rank 2
nd, 3
rd and 5
th respectively in the league.
The Panthers rank first in the nation in both free throw attempts per game (27.2) and free throws made per game (21.1) while sitting top-20 in scoring offense (84.4 ppg) and rebounds per game (40.2). At 21-6, HPU is the 25
th winningest team in the entire country to this point in the season.
BRIGHT SPOTS
Even in the midst of an unexpected four game skid, there are bright spots to focus on for the Highlanders. Radford has shot 40.6% from deep on eight made three-points per contest and 72.2% on 9.8 made free throws per game, both of which rank near the top of the conference.
The Highlanders are also still winning the rebounding battle with a +0.8 rebounding margin, while also out-gaining opponents in steals per game (5.3 to 3.8) and blocks per game (4.0 to 3.0).
