HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team knocked off the winter rust with a T-10^th place finish at the Wexford Intercollegiate to begin the 2024 spring season.
 
The Highlanders didn't have their best stuff going, but they did improve each and every round. As a team, they posted the fifth-lowest stroke average on Par 3's, shooting +8 with an average of 3.13. Radford also sank the fifth-most birdies of any team in the tournament, recording 37 of them, combined.
 
Nick Taliaferro paced the squad, finishing tied for 17^th at 5-over par. His week started off with a 79 (+7), but the veteran quickly rebounded for a second-round 72 (E) and closed things out with a -2 (70) in the final round to jump 22 spots up the leaderboard.
 
Jack Urban had his best showing as a Highlander, placing tied for 26^th at 8-over par. The Upper St. Clair, Pa. native shined in the first round especially, shooting -3 in the back nine to begin the tournament with a 1-under par 71.
 
Sandwiched by upper-70's scores in the first and third rounds, Patrick Gareiss shot even in the second round and finished the tournament tied for 39^th. In that sterling second round, he limited his mistakes to four bogeys and carded four birdies.
 
Bryce Corbett (T-62^nd) and Nathan Piatt (T-74^th) rounded out the event for Radford.
 
Taliaferro's 11 birdies were tied for the fourth-most in the field while Urban's 2.83 stroke average (-2) on Par 3's was the third-best of anyone to play the course this week.
