Women’s Basketball Falls at Longwood

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's basketball program fell in a tough one Saturday night at Longwood as the offense never quite found its groove in a 66-45 loss.
Radford couldn't get the start it wanted in Saturday's game as the Highlanders were held scoreless over the first eight minutes of action. Despite that, the Highlanders defense held the Lancers to just eight points, so it was only an 8-2 deficit when Pa'Shence Traylor-Walker broke the ice.
Ashlyn Traylor-Walker would get an and-one to fall before the quarter ended, but Radford faced a 13-5 deficit head into the second quarter. Ellie Taylor began the second with back-to-back makes for Radford to try and get the offense moving.
An Olivia Wagner three and Hanner layup pulled Radford within 18-14. The rest of the Highlanders offense came from the free throw line before halftime with six makes, but a Longwood half court buzzer beater gave the Lancers a 27-20 lead at the break.
The Lancers came out of the break hot on a 10-3 run that allowed the lead to balloon. The Highlanders continued to shoot well from the free throw line, but the Lancers pulled away through multiple caused turnovers for a 50-30 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
As they've done all season, Radford dug deep for the final frame. Longwood would not score for five straight minutes allowing Radford to go on a 9-0 run and pull things close. Joi Williams came alive for five points to help lead the charge.
Radford's offense went cold after the six-minute stretch, however, allowing the Lancers to pull away and preserve their lead. Longwood would get its last six of ten points from the free throw line to finish the 66-45 final.
