Fourth Quarter Dominance Not Enough in Close Loss to Duquesne

RADFORD, Va. – In the first-ever meeting between the two squads, Radford fell to Duquesne 14-12 at home Saturday morning. Margaret Gleason earned her second hat trick of the season ending the game with four goals.

Multiple Highlanders found their way into the score book taking advantage of free-position attempts. The Dukes were the first to score, but freshman Maddie Abbott retaliated to put the Highlanders on the board. From there, Duquesne went on to score two more goals. Ashlyn Grogan was not about to let the Dukes continue their run sd she earned her second goal of the season to shorten the gap.

The second quarter was the busiest for both teams as both scored their most points. Evie Gee kicked off the scoring to earn her first of two for the day. The Dukes went on to score two more, but Gleason put a stop to that to make it a one point game. From there the Highlanders went on to score three goals all coming as a result of free-position attempts. These three goals came from Erica Lawrence for her first goal of the season, followed by Gleason and then Linley Tirrell

While the third quarter only brought one goal from the Highlanders, the defense excelled in ground balls earning 12 in the quarter alone. Laura Ferko and Emily Strother spearheaded this category with four apiece, while Josie Helpard and Grogan picked up three each. In the final quarter, Radford led in goals accumulating four. Gleason earned her hat trick, but that wasn't enough so she added one more. Kaitlyn Lytton put her name in the mix for her second career goal. For the last goal of the game, Gee found the back of the net to conclude the game.

Olivia Hunter had 13 saves, tallying 33 saves on the season thus far.
Radford obtained 14 draw controls during the game, tied for the most this season.
Highlanders scooped up 28 ground ball on the game, the highest so far.

The Highlanders are back on the road as they head to Delaware State. Game time is 11 AM on Wednesday, March 6th.
