Women's Soccer Alumna Casarez Making Moves on International Scene

RADFORD, VA. - Radford alumna Jasmine Casarez (2019) has been a part of an incredible Gold Cup run as a part of the Mexican national team the last couple of weeks culminating in a historic victory over the United States national team this past week.

A distinguished former Radford women's soccer student-athlete, Casarez has made an impact through four Gold Cup matches over the last few weeks, subbing in four of the team's five matches. Casarez scored a goal in Mexico's 8-0 thumping over the Dominican Republic. In the team's historic victory over the U.S. program, Casarez subbed in and got off a shot in 22 minutes of play during the 2-0 win. The win was Mexico's first since 2010 against America. She also saw playtime off the bench in a draw against Argentina and the team's most recent match against Brazil.

The Mexican national team finished 2-0-1 in group A of the Concacaf Women's Gold Cup, advancing past the quarterfinals defeating Paraguay before ultimately falling to Brazil in the tournament's semifinals. The team's next scheduled match is currently set for April 6th against Columbia in an international friendly.

Prior to her time with the Mexican national team, Casarez joined FC Juarez in 2022. Prior to that, she spent three years with Puerto Rico Sol competing with fellow alumna Nelia Perez. A feature story on the duo's time together can be found HERE.

With the Highlanders, Casarez competed in 69 matches over four seasons totaling 33 goals, 8 assists, 74 points, and 13 game-winning goals. Her senior season in 2018 culminated with the program's fifth Big South regular season championship, sixth Big South Tournament title and seventh NCAA Tournament appearance. She scored both goals in Radford's semifinal 2-0 victory over Campbell before the team's 1-0 triumph over Gardner-Webb in the tournament final. Her career totals in goals, shots, shots on goal, game-winning goals, and points are all top-10 records in program history.
