FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. – After three great round rounds of stroke play, the Radford men's golf team swung their way to the Big South Championships semifinals but were halted by Winthrop in the match play semifinals.

Stroke Play 

Kicking things off in day one of stroke play, the Highlanders would finish shooting a 286 (+2) as team. Bryce Corbett would pace the Highlanders on day one going on to shoot a 68 (-3) in his first outing on the course. Patrick Gareiss would go on a bit of a journey in his outing. He recorded four bogeys but also accumulated five birdies along his trip through the course to finish his day at 70 (-1). Bobby Dudeck, Nicholas Taliaferro and Nathan Piatt would all have similar days and finish the day at 74 (+3), setting the Highlanders in fifth place heading into day two. 

In the second day of stroke play, the Highlanders would bring their best, with their round of stroke play recording a 277 (-7) as a squad. Nicholas Taliaferro would have the best round out of all the Highlanders in all three days going 66 (-5) securing five birdies and one eagle to have at seven under but the two bogeys on the scorecard would have him at the five under mark. Corbett would once again finish at the 68 (-3) mark putting in five birdies but a double bogey through his second trip would put it back at the under three mark for two straight days. Dudeck would finish out the day finishing on par, Gareiss would find himself two over par, and Jack Urban would wrap things up with two over par and maintain the fith place spot for the Highlanders who were just one stroke from a top-four spot to move on to match play. 

The Highlanders would round out the final day of stroke play finishing on par as a team. Gareiss would have the best outing on the course equaling his first-round result in the third round going 70 (-1). Corbett and Dudeck would both finish their third rounds on par, and Taliaferro along with Piatt would finish off their days one over par. But it would be just enough as the Highlanders were able to climb up two spots in the leaderboard and getting the tie for third to move on to match play. 

Match Play 

In match play the Highlanders would be paired with Winthrop in the semifinals. Winthrop would lead through the halfway mark of match play, but the Highlanders were able to keep things close. Gareiss would be down 5 thru 12, Dudeck would be tied thru 10 in his pairing, Piatt would be down 1 thru 9, Corbett would be up four thru nine and Taliaferro would be down two thru eight. Gareiss would fall in his pairing down 6 with 5 holes left to play to put Winthrop up by one. Corbett would even things out as he would take down his pairing up six with four holes left. Winthrop would regain their lead after Piatt would drop two holes that would put the Winthrop golfer up three holes with five left to play. Piatt was unable to close the gap allowing Winthrop to make the score 2-1. Dudeck was able to keep the Highlanders close but would be down one thru 12 and then down two thru 13. However, he would chip away at the lead to bring it down to one thru 15 but the Winthrop golfer in his pairing would go back to up two in the 17th hole and see the Eagles take the final point needed to advance to the final round and finish the Highlanders' time at the Big South Championships. Taliaferro's pairing went unfinished but would make a major comeback going from down two to up three with four holes left to play.
