Second Half Comeback Fizzles Out Against Wofford

RADFORD, Va. – Radford women's lacrosse fell to Wofford 13-10 Saturday afternoon. Prior to the start of the contest, the seniors were honored for their dedication and hard work over the past four and five years.

Margaret Gleason kicked off senior day with the first goal of the game. Wofford responded going on a 4-0 run. However, thanks to a crucial ground ball pickup from goalie Olivia Hunter, Kaitlyn Lytton was able to break Radford's scoring drought putting the game at 4-2. Riding the high, Ashlyn Grogan saw an opening and fed the ball to Reece Morrish to make it a one point game.

Wofford continued to pull ahead earning the last goal of the first quarter and the first two goals of the second quarter despite successful draw controls and clear attempts. Linley Tirrell wasn't ready to let the game go as she shot to set the game at 7-4, favoring the terriers. Laura Ferko won the draw control, setting the pace for the next five minutes of scoreless play. It was a back-and-forth game of turnovers and ground balls for both teams. Mady Cheney picked up a turnover from Wofford and fed the ball to Grogan for the final goal of the first half.

With the game at 8-5, the Highlanders came out of halftime determined immediately winning the draw control. Emily Strother racked up ground balls, earning two ground ball pickups and one caused turnover. Lauren Davis also shined for the Highlanders on the defensive side with a caused turnover and ground ball pick up. Despite a strong defensive performance, Wofford was able to take advantage of a free position shot and make their first goal of the half. Piper Galbraith scooped up the draw control and the Highlanders set up a strategic play for Gleason to get a goal less than 90 seconds later.

The fourth quarter brought the most excitement for the Highlanders as they outscored Wofford 4-3. The quarter began with Wofford in the lead 10-6. Madison Driscoll scooped up the ball and allowed Radford to set up a play for Gleason to earn her fourth hat trick of the season. Galbraith once again won the draw control, leading to Morrish's second goal of the game. Radford took advantage of opportunities to earn two more goals. Lytton tied things up at 10 apiece during Radford's man-up opportunity. From there, the terriers went on to pull ahead, ending the game 13-10.
