HIGH POINT, N.C. – Women's Track & Field fought their way to third place at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships Wednesday at High Point.
Chloe Wellings highlighted the finish becoming a five-time Big South champion with her dominant 5000m individual championship.
There was no other Big South athlete better than Wellings this track and field season in the Big South Championship as she swept her competition with her second individual championship of the week taking first in the 5000m with a time of 16:47.59. Not only did she dominate on the track, Wellings' performance in the classroom earned her a spot on the Big South's All-Academic list. She has tallied at 3.63 GPA as a criminal justice major.
Sophie Magson also earned her second podium finish during the Championship. Magson's time of 4:30.97 put her third in the 1500m. At 17:29.43, Magson also came in fifth for the 5000m.
MegAnne Gilmore recorded a personal best of 4:34.89 in the 1500m to place top-five. This finish betters her record book time.
Another personal record came from
Jaslyne Robinson as she hurdled her way through at 14.46 in the 100m hurdles for a sixth place finish and moves up in Radford's record book.
Elyssia Fisher also betters her time in the record book for the 200m. Fisher's time of 24.48 put her in fifth place in the competition and book.
The 4x100 relay team consisting of
Raichelle Cornelius,
Sela Beatty,
Kandace McIvor and
Dezmajia Carter earned a season best of 48.30 to finish fifth.
Another 4x400 relay team (Robinson, Cornelius,
Jordan Jackson and Fisher) also earned a season best of 3:50.73 to come in fourth place.
In the high jump,
Katja Kehlenbeck tied her personal best for the second time this season.
In field competition, both
Jaylen Rosser and
Mya Rosser put up personal bests in the discus throw. Mya's PR of 38.22m earned her a top-15 finish and put her eighth in Radford's all-time record book.
When all was said and done, the Highlanders finished at an impressive third-place in a competitive Big South field. The third-place finish is the first since 2006.
