
Cross Country Earns Record Book Finishes and New Personal Bests at Firetower Project

BOONE, N.C. – The Radford men's and women's cross-country programs continued their 2024 campaign with a strong showing at the Firetower Project Friday afternoon. Just about every Highlander who competed earned a PR as three student-athletes earned record book placement times.

The men kicked off the event competing in the 8k earning a top five finish ahead of teams such as Marshall and College of Charleston. Leading the team was Maxton Sowers who improved his third-place time in the record book at 25:01.81. Freshman Azrael Cabusao was right behind him marking his place in the record book at fourth overall with a time of 25:09.98.

Charlie Dance and Hayat Khan also set new PRs in the meet, finishing third and fourth for Radford, respectively. Freshmen Drew Kight, Ryan Connelly and Logan Hamilton all also set their personal bests on their debuts for the collegiate 8k.

The women followed and earned multiple strong finishes in the 6k event to complete the afternoon. Every single Highlander who competed in the event, totaling ten, set a new personal best. Kate McLearen led the pack with her top-20 finish earning a time of 21:54.88 which puts her seventh all-time in the program record book.

Sienna Bailey, Megan Cash, Mia Farley and Catelyn Campbell were all next to finish for the Highlanders, all setting new personal best marks to round out Radford's top five finishers. Freshmen Sylvia Hemmer, Kasey Rosenbaum and Summer Hamlin also made their collegiate debuts in the 6k.
