SERIES HISTORY
The Highlanders and Lancers renewed their in-state conference rivalry Wednesday night for the 47th time in program history. Radford leads the all-time series 30-16, but Longwood has taken six of the last seven meetings. During the 2023-24 season, Radford snapped a five-game winning streak by Longwood at home before the Lancers evened the series to a split in Farmville. Head coach
Mike McGuire owns a 14-7 record when facing the Lancers.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
Through the first third of conference play, the Lancers own the lead in the conference standings with an unblemished 5-0 record. Coming off their bye last Saturday, Longwood has collected wins over Presbyterian, Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville, Winthrop and High Point. The Lancers currently lead the conference in multiple team categories including scoring, defense, turnover margin and shooting percentage.
Three Lancers currently pace the offense with scoring averages in the double figures. Kiki McIntyre (10.6 ppg) also boasts 3.6 apg and a team-best 75 steals this season. Transfer Mariah Wilson has been a huge pick up for the Lancers, currently leading the team in scoring at 11.7 ppg and 55 steals.
CARLSON'S CAUGHT FIRE
The sophomore transfer
Cate Carlson hit some big shots for the Highlanders last week while averaging 15.5 points per game. In a back-and-forth affair at Gardner-Webb, her made shot with just three seconds left in the game vaulted Radford ahead for good in the big 71-70 victory. Staying hot back on the home court, she guided the offense to a huge first half against Charleston Southern and eventual third straight win. Her 19 points were a team-high in the 74-62 win over the Buccaneers.
OFFENSE CLICKING
With the team's victories over Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb last week, Radford's offense caught fire for 70 points in both contests. It marked the first time the Highlanders have scored over 70 points in back-to-back Big South contest since January 2022.
