CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced on Monday that Georgia Simonsen has been named freshman of the week after two outstanding performances against Furman and Niagara.

Simonsen was a key defender in holding Furman to just 50 points, leading the Highlanders with three blocks and eight rebounds while pouring in 10 points as part of the 18-point victory. The Fairfax, Va. native followed that up with her first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds (6 offensive) in an 80-58 win over Niagara.

The award is the first in Simonsen's very young collegiate career. The honor is also Radford's first weekly award this season. It's the fourth straight season a Highlander freshman has earned a weekly award from the conference office.

The Highlanders have a busy feast week in store as they head to Cleveland State for a multiple-team event. First up will be a matchup against Valparaiso on Wednesday, November 26 at 4:00 p.m. The game from Woodling Gymnasium will be streamed live on the Cleveland State Athletics YouTube channel.
