Track & Field competes across two weekend meets in preparation for championship season

SALEM, Va. – Championship season is right around the corner for the Radford women's track & field program, so the Highlanders went out for final preparation at the Joe LaRocco Invitational and the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
The weekend was highlighted by three personal records and four season bests. The Highlanders did not race a complete unit at either meet with the Big South Indoor Championships set for the end of February.
 
THE BASICS

LOCATIONS: Cregger Center (Salem, Va.), Liberty Indoor Track Complex (Lynchburg, Va.)
 
JOE LAROCCO INVITATIONAL NOTABLES
- Mya Rosser put up another standout showing in both the weight throw and shot put finals. She set a personal record with a best toss of 15.89-meters (52'-1.75") to place second in the weight throw and followed it up with an eighth place showing in the shot put with a best chuck of 11.01-meters (36'-1.50"). Rosser improved to eighth in the Big South in the weight throw.
- Aliyah Taylor claimed a spot on the podium in the long jump final with a best leap of 5.25-meters to take second overall (17'-2.75").
- Claire Keefe and Katelyn Lafon teamed up to put on a show in the women's 800-meter final. Keefe led the way in second overall with a time of 2:22.66, while Lafon was right behind in eighth with a season best of 2:25.42. The duo is now slotted in at 15th and 19th in the conference in the event.
- Logan Babbs also earned a podium finish with a third-place performance in the weight throw final with a best mark of 15.89-meters (52'-1.75").
- Kate McLearned crossed the line in fifth in the women's mile at 5:13.18.
 
DARIUS DIXON MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL
- Mackenzie Brownrigg was the only Highlander in attendance at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational on Friday, but she made sure she showed out for Radford with a tenth-place finish in the 5,000-meter final. She clocked in with a personal-best time of 18:22.28, a mark that is ranked tenth in the Big South.
 
NEXT UP
There is just one regular season meet left on the docket as the Highlanders will head just down the road to the Virginia Tech Challenge that runs Friday, February 21 through Saturday February 22 at Rector Field House.
