Second Half Push Vaults Lacrosse Over Howard

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse program used a strong second half performance Wednesday afternoon to pull ahead and defeat Howard 19-9.

PLAY BY PLAY
After the visiting Bison took a 1-0 lead to start the game, the Highlanders immediately responded thanks to Kaitlyn Lytton who evened the match 1-1. Howard responded with a goal of their own, but it was Molly O'Brien who tied the game back up and put Radford ahead 3-2 for her third and fourth goals this season.
The Highlanders would tack on one more before the quarter closed thanks to Mady Cheney. Now up 4-2, the Highlanders and Bison traded goals once again to open the second quarter. The second goal by Radford began a 4-0 run for the Highlanders as Hanger, Cheney, Alyssa YYost and Riley Dundee all scored to lead 8-3.
Radford would hold the 8-4 advantage at halftime and kick it into a new gear for the final 30 minutes. A 3-0 scoring run thanks to goals from Hanger and Gee pushed Radford ahead 11-5.
Now ahead 11-6 in the fourth quarter, Gabby DiRenno scored her first goal of the season to put Radford ahead further. That brought forth a slew of Radford goals, three in just one minute, to go up 15-6. The Highlanders offense would keep clicking to the final whistle, holding on for the eventual 19-9 final.

- Ava LaManna had another great day in the net recording 15 saves, her second game this season with 15+ saves.
- Ten different Highlanders scored goals led by Mady Cheney, Evie Gee and Hannah Hanger who each had three.
- Gee was responsible for seven of Radford's 19 points, adding four assists to her three goals.
- Cheney and Hanger also led Radford at the draw control, being responsible for nine of the team's 11 won draw controls.
- Radford forced 21 Howard turnovers; the second time the Highlanders' defense has forced 20+ turnovers in a game this season.
