Five Highlanders Named to Big South Men’s Soccer Midseason Watch List

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Wednesday afternoon that five Highlanders including Kenshin Akimoto, Hiromasa Iwai, Lukas Kuca, Tyler Pulik and Ben Miller had all been named to the conference's midseason watch list.

Competing in five of Radford's six matches so far this season, Akimoto has been one of the Highlanders' most consistent scoring threats. The forward is tied for the team lead in goals with a pair of header goals against UNC Greensboro and Howard. Akimoto also recorded an assist against UNC Greensboro, factoring into all of Radford's scoring for the match.

Over the last trio of matches, Highlander fans have come accustomed to hearing Iwai's name be called as the junior from Osaka, Japan has scored two goals and two assists in the last two weeks. For his efforts in the win over Howard, he earned the Big South Offensive Player of the Week nod. In the following match, his late strike played crucial in drawing on the road at the reigning Southern Conference regular season champions ETSU.

Lukas Kuca has been a workhouse at the midfield position for the Highlanders and also earned midseason watch list honors. Kuca has appeared in all six matches for Radford, playing the full 90 in four of those games. Kuca fired off two shots in the match at UNC Greensboro and followed with another trio of shots at Queens (NC) this past weekend. Pulik also earned midseason watch list honors after captaining the Highlanders backline all season so far. The senior has appeared in all six matches totalling 435 minutes played.

Rounding out the Highlanders' midseason watch list representatives was goalkeeper Ben Miller. Miller, who just joined the program this season, has slotted in perfectly as the Highlanders final line of defense. The sophomore has started and played the full 90 in all six matches recording 24 saves and has faced 75 shots. He notched his first career shutout in a victory over Howard, and has helped guide Radford to ties against Liberty and ETSU.
