Women’s 4x400 Meter Relay Team, Joiner Garner Big South Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford women's 4x400 meter relay team was named Big South Track Team of the Week, and Jaelynn Joiner received the Co-Freshman of the Week award, as announced by the conference office earlier today.

The relay squad consisting of Jeylah Hamrick, Mattie Flores, Jordan Jackson, and Raichelle Cornelius cut four seconds off their already school record time to beat Charleston Southern by just over a second at the Doc Hale Invite on Saturday. The time of 3:40.20 stands as the new all-time best at Radford and the second-best in Big South history. It's also the fifth-best performance in the NCAA Division I Southeast Region (programs in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia).

Joiner finished on the podium in the long jump at the Doc Hale Invite with a best leap of 5.72 meters (18' 9.25") for third place. She also matched a personal best mark of 12.19 meters (40') for a fourth-place finish in the triple jump. Joiner competed in the 200 meters and won her section and was the second-highest Radford athlete in the event, behind Hamrick.

This is the first time a Radford relay team has received a Big South indoor player of the week award, and just the fourth time the conference has given the award to an indoor relay team. Hamrick has been part of two weekly awards including her individual Big South Athlete of the Week honor two weeks ago. Joiner shares the Freshman of the Week award with Kendall Hicks of High Point. She has received three weekly conference honors this season.

Radford hopes to continue to improve on a fantastic start to the indoor season this weekend at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invite on February 13 and 14 hosted by Liberty University. The meet will air on ESPN+ with conference coming from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
