MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Radford Men's Golf program finished play at the Surf Club Invitational on Tuesday afternoon in a competitive field led by Will Giaquinto, as the team placed tied for 13th overall.
Giaquinto was back on the course for the Highlanders for the first time this spring, leading Radford and placing tied for 49th place. Giaquinto showed his consistency on the course by going two-over, one-under, and one-over across his three rounds. This would have him leading the team with two over-par rounds at the Invitational. In the second round, he would shoot his best 18 holes with three birdies in the front nine, followed by one more in the back nine.
Kieran McCarthy would be the second-best placing Highlander at the invitational. McCarthy would go one over par on each of his three rounds, shooting 216, to place tied for 53rd place. McCarthy would have four birdies in each of his three rounds. He would lead the team after the first day, with Giaquinto eventually passing him for the top spot of the team.
Tate Corbett would be the next Highlander, shooting four over on the course at 217 to place tied for 58th out of the field. In both the second and third rounds, Corbett would have four birdies to be one-over on both.
Louie Stott would play as an individual, placing 67th, hitting 216, and being six over par. Stott's breakout performance would come from the fifth hole in the second round as he would hit for an eagle on a par five. This would finish the day for him with one under par for his best result of the Invitational.
The final two Highlanders to compete were CJ Peterson and Benson Blevins. Peterson would have a strong start on the first day with an eagle on the first hole and shooting two-under on the second day. Blevins would be impressive in both the first round, going one over, and in the third, shooting a team-best even on the round.
