Highlanders Cap Perfect Week at Home with Pair of Quality Wins Over ETSU and Lafayette

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball program finished a perfect week at home Saturday afternoon as the team rallied to defeat ETSU 2-1 and put foot on the pedal to take down Lafayette 9-2.

GAME ONE
After a shaky start, Radford's win in the first game of the day came off the back of a phenomenal showing from Dakota Redmon. A pair of errors allowed the Buccaneers to plate a run in the first but that would represent the entirety of their offensive production for the game.

Radford's offense wouldn't get much going early, but Redmon would retire three straight in the second and work around a leadoff double in the third to keep it a 1-0 game. It was more of the same in the fourth and fifth innings as Redmon retired six straight in the two frames including a pair of strikeouts to end the fifth.

After two outs were recorded in the bottom of the fifth, Radford got a pair of big hits. Peyton Simmons would pick up an infield single that was upheld after video review. Amanda Lee took full advantage launching a home run just over the left field wall that vaulted the Highlanders ahead 2-1.

ETSU had no answers in the sixth inning as Redmon dialed up a double play ball to erase a walk. In the seventh, the Buccaneers got a baserunner with two outs off a dribbler to third base. The threat ended there, though, as Redmon capped her near-perfect showing with another groundout that sealed the 2-1 win.

GAME TWO
The runs came early and often for the Highlanders to finish the perfect week at home. After a clean start from Morgan Cooper, Radford would plate five runs in the bottom of the first. The first strike came from Wolfe who blasted a two-run homer to vault Radford ahead 2-0.

After Groves drew a walk, Redmon picked up a load double to put two runners in scoring position. A fortunate error drove both home and made it a 4-0 lead. Grace Bechtol would pick up her first RBI of the game to cap the inning with a single to center as the Highlanders broke the game open with a 5-0 lead.

The Leopards would strike back with a two-run homer in the second, but that would be the last hit Cooper gave up for the rest of the game. Both teams remained quiet offensively until Radford strung together another big inning in the fifth.

Hailey Scott began the inning with a single and Kelley Feigen followed with a hit to put a pair on. Another single by Abby Bossler loaded the bases and Bechtol brought the first run home to push the lead to 6-2. Lee brought another run home with a walk while Wolfe singled off the third base bag to push things further to an 8-2 lead.

Cooper would face no issues in the sixth with a pair of strikeouts while the offense would add one more. Redmon added another single with Layla Miles coming off the bench to pinch run. Bossler would bring Miles home with an RBI single to center giving Radford the 9-2 lead and Cooper would lock down the seventh to seal the win.
