Hudgins’ Four-Hit Day Powers Highlanders Past Dukes
3/24/2026 8:28:00 PM | Baseball
Radford had plenty of pop in the top of their lineup, with Eli Hudgins getting four hits and two doubles out of the two spot to lead the team. Junho Son and Breckin Nace added a pair of knocks as well. The top three hitters in the Highlander's lineup finished 8-for-14 on the day and accounted for four runs, three RBI, and three of Radford's 11 walks. Parker Noonan got his first win of his collegiate career, going five innings while giving up just the three unearned runs with two strikeouts in his fourth appearance and first start of 2026.
The Highlanders had to dig themselves out of an early hole after the Dukes scored a pair of unearned runs in the first. They scored their first run in the third even though the ball had yet to leave the infield. Nace had a long at-bat before grounding out to first base with the bases loaded and nobody out, scoring Carrington Aaron. After a four-pitch walk drawn by Devin Parks, Brady Powell was hit by a pitch to even the game at 2-2. However, the Dukes got out of the inning before Radford could do any more damage, then scored to take a 3-2 lead after three.
Hudgins kept smacking the ball, recording his third hit to lead off the fifth with a single to left field. Nace followed with a knock, and Powell tied it on a sacrifice bunt that brought Hudgins home. Noah Toole delivered the go-ahead hit in the fifth, a double down the right field line that scored Nace from second to make it 4-3 Radford.
Radford added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to stretch the lead to three runs. Hudgins smacked his fourth hit of the day to left field that scored Alex Levesque. Nace followed and was intentionally walked, then Parks was hit by a 3-0 pitch. Powell drew another walk to force home the Highlanders sixth run. The pair of tallies in the top half proved noteworthy, as James Madison got a couple back in the bottom half to trail 6-5 after six innings.
The James Madison bullpen, however, failed to keep Radford at bay the rest of the way. Aaron got pinch-runner Lucas Edwards home from third on a groundout to make it 7-5 Radford in the seventh. Later, Lavesque scampered home on a wild pitch that made it 8-5 before the stretch. An RBI walk by Son in the eighth gave Radford their largest lead of four runs in the eighth. Powell pulled the Highlanders back ahead by four runs in the top of the ninth with a RBI single, and Trey Ludy logged the three-inning save while allowing just one run with a pair of strikeouts.
