Tuesday Tilt at Charlotte Slips Away for Softball

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Radford softball program saw Tuesday afternoon's tilt at Charlotte slowly slip away in a shortened 9-1 final in six innings.
 
PLAY BY PLAY
The Highlanders were competitive in the early goings against a tough Charlotte squad as both teams traded runs in the early innings. After going behind 1-0 in the first, Radford got its first run in the second behind a slew of hits. Hailey Scott began the inning with a walk and Dakota Redmon laced a single to right to put two on.
 
A double play nearly ended the inning, but Kelley Feigen kept things alive with a walk. After a wild pitch moved two into scoring position, Malli Groves came up with the big two-out RBI single to center to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Errors hurt the Highlanders in the third, allowing Charlotte to build back a 3-1 lead. After a quiet fourth inning, Charlotte tagged on three more runs with a two-out homer that boosted their lead to 6-1. In the sixth, the 49ers put things away for good with three more runs that shortened the game in a 9-1 final.
 
UP NEXT
The Highlanders turn their focus to this upcoming weekend's home conference opener against Presbyterian. Action is currently set to start Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday.
