Redmon’s Bat and Pitching Gets Highlanders Back in Win Column over Presbyterian

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford softball program got back into the win column in a dominant way Friday afternoon as Dakota Redmon twirled a shutout and drove in two runs to help lift Radford in the 5-0 victory.

PLAY BY PLAY
Friday's series opener had an electric pace to start as both starting pitchers went undamaged through two innings. Redmon got her day started retiring the first nine straight Blue Hose and would help her own cause in the bottom of the third.

After Peyton Simmons and Amanda Lee both singled to begin the inning, a sacrifice fly from Redmon gave Radford the 1-0 edge. Redmon would allow her first, and only, hit of the game in the top of the fourth but kept the lead intact.

In the fifth, Redmon added on to her efforts once again with another RBI strike. After a walk by Lee and a big pinch hit single by Klara Van Beuge, Redmon also singled to bring home Lee and make it a 2-0 lead. In her pitching half of the sixth, Redmon kept cruising retiring three straight once again.

Radford's offense broke out in the bottom of the sixth for multiple insurance runs. Amber Wolfe got things started with a double and after Layla Miles drew a hit by pitch to put two on, Lee double home two runs with two outs to double the lead at 4-0. Hailey Scott added one more loud double before the inning ended to score Lee and make it 5-0 Radford.

The offensive support was more than enough for Redmon, who worked through the teeth of the Presbyterian lineup in the seventh to cap her shutout effort and the victory 5-0. The Blue Hose tallied just the one hit in the game as Redmon retired 21 of the 22 batters faced with five strikeouts.

UP NEXT
