Chad joined the Highlander family in 2010 as the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Sports Medicine. In 2017, he was promoted to the leadership team for Radford University Athletics and now serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine. In 2025, Chad began his 16th year at Radford University. He is currently the longest-tenured Head Athletic Trainer in the Big South Conference and serves as the chair and spokesperson for the Head Athletic Trainers.

Hyatt’s duties at Radford include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Sports Medicine Department. He works collaboratively with campus partners to promote and ensure the safety and well-being of Radford University’s student-athletes. As the NCAA-designated Athletic Health Care Administrator, Chad acts as a liaison between the athletic department, medical staff, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the well-being of the student-athletes and compliance with regulations. He is the central point of contact and facilitator for all matters related to the health and safety of Radford University student-athletes.

Working extensively with the Department’s Medical Director, Dr. Delmas Bolin, Chad and his staff of 6 full-time athletic trainers work hard to ensure that every student-athlete has an outstanding experience with the Sports Medicine Department and all of their medical needs are met. Another integral role that Hyatt spearheads is the sport safety education of all coaches and student-athletes, including, but not limited to, CPR and First-Aid for all coaches and topics such as concussion, heat stroke, cardiac arrest, safe progressive return to sport, substance abuse prevention, and a variety of other topics.

In his role as Associate Athletic Director, Hyatt serves as the sport supervisor for the Men’s and Women’s Golf teams and works with the rest of the leadership team to facilitate and promote the game-day experience for all athletic events.
As a proud campus partner, Chad has served as an AP Senator since 2023. He is a member of the Radford University Health and Wellbeing Council. Chad also enjoys working with his dog, Sunny, as an official Tartan Tail Team, the University’s therapy dog program.

Hyatt, a Roanoke native, came to Radford following four years with Virginia Tech’s Sports Medicine Department, where he worked with the Football, Men’s Basketball, and Golf Teams. Before that, he worked at Athens Orthopedic Clinic in Athens, GA, where he was a staff athletic trainer (2004-05) and the Head Athletic Trainer at Athens Academy High School.

A 2002 Virginia Tech graduate, Hyatt earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise with a minor in Communication Studies. He earned his Master’s in Sports Management from the University of Georgia. During his time with the Bulldogs, Hyatt worked extensively with the football team as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Chad is currently working on a Doctor of Health Sciences through Radford University Carilion.

Hyatt lives in Radford with his wife, Brenda, his daughters, Lily and Harper, two dogs, Sunny and Annabelle, and their cat, Slim. They love everything Radford Athletics and enjoy all the outdoor activities the New River Valley has to offer. Chad loves to hike, hunt, fish, and garden. He is also very active in the Radford Community.
