Sam Pyles is an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Radford, joining in February 2019. His primary sport responsibilities include volleyball, lacrosse, track & field, men's golf and women's golf.

Pyles’ day-to-day duties include assisting in creating the weight room schedule for Radford’s athletic programs, assisting with the Return-to-Play protocol for student-athletes and helping with the intern development program. He designs and implements training programs, coaches lifting form and uses corrective exercises to fix potential weaknesses. He utilizes GPS tracking devices, tendo units, and vertical jump mats to track progress and monitor fatigue with the student athletes.

Pyles is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)  and has both CPR and AED certification. The seasoned strength coach added the SCCC certification through the CSCCa as well.

He came to Radford after a six-month stint as a strength and conditioning intern at West Virginia University, where he worked with the Mountaineer football, baseball, golf and track and field programs. He spent the 2016-18 seasons as a graduate assistant at Fairmont State, where he worked primarily with the baseball and women’s soccer programs while assisting with football, women’s basketball, volleyball, acrobatics and tumbling and swimming.

During his time at Fairmont State, Pyles also completed a summer internship in 2017 at Marshall University, working with the Thundering Herd football program through their summer camp. He also previously spent two summers interning with the strength and conditioning team at West Virginia State University.

Pyles has a pair of degrees, both from Fairmont State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science in May 2016 and a master’s degree in education with an exercise science emphasis in May 2018.
