Highlanders Downed by Hoosiers at Concord Hilton Thanksgiving Classic

MORAGA, Calif. – Radford was defeated by Indiana, 74-47, on the first day of the Concord Hilton Thanksgiving Classic from St. Mary's College. Sophomore Taleia Moton (Fort Washington, Md./Suitland) paced the Highlanders with 16 points. Indiana's Amber Jackson led all scorers with 25 points.

Behind 17 first half points from Jackson, Indiana took a commanding 38-16 lead into halftime. She was 5-for-5 from the field and 7-for-9 from the line. As a team, the Hoosiers shot 50 percent (13-26) from the floor and 77 percent from the line (10-13).

The Highlanders, who were held to 26 percent (6-23) field goal shooting, were led by Moton's eight points. The Hoosiers held a slight 19-18 advantage in rebounds. Whitney Thomas led all players with four rebounds at the half. Three different Highlanders corralled three boards.

After senior Vandy Pullen (Arlington, Va./Maine) banked in a 10-footer to get within 7-6, Indiana went on a 19-3 run to take a 26-9 lead at the 8:59 mark. Moton ended a four-minute field goal drought at 7:58. IU would extend its lead to as many as 23 points before Moton hit a freebee with 20 seconds to make it 38-16 going into the break.

In the second half, Radford cut the lead to 20 (45-25) four minutes in, but that would be as close as it would get.

Senior Johnette Walker (Columbia, S.C./Irmo) chipped in with nine points and hit two free throws and is just three from breaking the career mark of 359. She also had a game high four steals and two blocks. Junior Charron Leeper (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Shaw) led the Highlanders on the boards with six.

Radford will face La Salle at 8:00 p.m. EST tomorrow, Nov. 29.
