RADFORD, Va. –Five double-figure scorers, led by 18 from junior
Artsiom Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus), guided Radford to a 54.2 percent shooting performance in a 104-66 win over Shenandoah in non-conference men's basketball at Peters Hall Saturday night.
"We played hard, shared the ball and did a good job of being smart against a 2-3 zone to get good shots," said head coach
Brad Greenberg. "We got it done both inside and on the perimeters."
Parakhouski scored 14 of his game-high 18 in the first half, connecting on 7-of-10 tries from the field. He scored six of the final 10 points of the period to help stake the Highlanders (4-8) to a 52-32 halftime lead.
The junior forward finished the game 9-for-15 from the floor and pulled down 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season.
"Art had strong numbers and can be even better," Greenberg said. "Our interior guys did an excellent job tonight."
Juniors
Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax),
Phillip Martin (Roanoke, Va./Roanoke Catholic) and
Amir Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) each hit double figures, and senior
Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) chipped in 17 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Lynch-Flohr finished with 17, Martin contributed a season-high 11, and Johnson posted 11.
"I thought
Phillip Martin gave us a good spark with some hustle plays," said Greenberg. "Amir did a solid job being patient, trying to pick apart the zone and push the ball up court. Joey was aggressive around the basket and Kenny came off the bench to find his shooting touch, and was money from beyond the arc."
The Highlanders shot better than 50 percent from the field for the third time this season, connecting on 54.2 percent of their shots. Of those made buckets, the Highlanders scored 48 in the paint and 24 off of second chances.
Shenandoah (3-7) was led by 12 from Wayne Washington and 11 from Brandon Bryan. Bryan hit on 3-of-5 chances from three point range. The Hornets connected on 35 percent of their tries from the floor.
Radford led the entire contest and stretched the advantage to 30 for the first time on Martin's three-point play with 7:55 remaining, as he was fouled on an up-and-under from the left baseline. The Hornets never got closer than 15 in the final period.
The Highlanders conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday, when they travel to Wake Forest for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
