RADFORD – Radford winds down its men's soccer regular season schedule with a stretch of three consecutive home games, beginning Wednesday night when the Highlanders host VMI at 7 p.m.
With just four games left on the slate, Radford (3-6-2, 0-3-2 Big South) is in search of its first Big South win on Wednesday night when the Keydets (2-9-1, 1-2-0) visit Cupp Stadium.
Radford, which has been playing a steady schedule of once-weekly games for the last two weeks, used its only match last week to gain a 2-2 tie at Winthrop, the first time since 1995 that the Highlanders have gained points on the road against the Eagles. Winthrop entered last Saturday's match with a hold on first place in the Big South standings.
Scoring for the first time in Big South play this season, Radford grabbed a 2-0 first half lead on goals from freshman
Brian Gwanzura ('18) and junior
James Leith ('33). Winthrop countered with two before the break and both teams went scoreless the rest of the way.
Radford leads the series with VMI at 16-2-2, and has never lost to the Keydets at home. The two teams are meeting for the seventh time in the last four seasons,
Following Wednesday night's game, the Highlanders will take a nine-day layoff, resuming action when they host Elon next Friday (Oct. 30).
