Liberty Wins Re-scheduled Matchup With Women's Soccer, 2-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A pair of second half goals was the difference in Liberty's 2-0 win over Radford in a Big South women's soccer matchup on Sunday evening.

The game was re-scheduled from Saturday, when unplayable field conditions forced a postponement to Sunday.

Radford (8-8-0, 5-2-0 Big South) entered Sunday two points ahead of Liberty (7-6-1, 5-0-1) for second place in the conference standings, but a big second half for the Flames knocked off the Highlanders.

Both Liberty goals came after the 66th minute as Aimee Luurtsema tallied the clincher in the 66th when Heather Bentley dropped a pass back for Luurstema, who finished to put Liberty ahead, 1-0.   Maria Owen gave the Flames a cushion less than two minutes later, scoring in the 68th to put Liberty ahead, 2-0.

Liberty outshot Radford 16-10, and 10-5 in the second half.  The Highlanders put three on frame in the final period, but couldn't net the equalizer.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Lubke (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) made eight saves for Radford, including five in the final period.

Radford plays games on consecutive days for the first time this season tomorrow, heading to High Point for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
