Highlanders and Heels Set to Battle in First Round of 2009 NCAA Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After a media session and 40 minute practice Wednesday, Radford will take the floor in the 2009 NCAA Tournament against top-seeded North Carolina Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. The game is scheduled to tip at 2:50 p.m. and will be televised on CBS.

HIGHLANDER HITS
- Winners of 17 of their last 19, the Highlanders enter their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998 with a 21-11 mark.

Greenberg NCAA Press Conference
- Top-seeded Duke defeated Radford 99-63 in its only previous trip to the NCAA Tournament on March 12, 1998 in Lexington, Ky.

- Radford, which tied the league record for conference victories, won the 2008-09 Big South Regular Season title with a 15-3 record.

- Radford is the first team in league history to win the regular season after finishing seventh the previous campaign.

- The Big South Conference is 2-17 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

- To go along with its 17-2 mark since January, Radford owns the nation's second longest streak for consecutive road wins (9).

- The Highlanders set a new school and league record with their nine conference wins away from home.

- Junior Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) was named the 2008-09 Big South Player of the Year, while Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) joined him on the first team and Brad Greenberg was voted the Coach of the Year.

- Parakhouski joins Jason Williams (1999-2000) as the only players in Radford history to earn player of the year honors.

- A three-time Big South Player of the Week, Parakhouski ranks ninth nationally in rebounds per game (11.2) and leads three Highlanders in double figures averaging 16.3 points per game.

- Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) and Lynch-Flohr are also contributing more than 10 points per outing with averages of 14.8 and 13.7, respectively.

- Amir Johnson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Quaker Valley) led the Big South in assists per game (5.2), while turning in just under 10 points and five rebounds per contests. The 5-9 point guard became the 24th player in Radford men's basketball history to hit the 1,000-point plateau with his effort in the Big South Championship.

- As a team, Radford ranks among the top three in the Big South in the following categories: scoring offense (2nd/76.0), scoring margin (2nd/+5.1), field-goal percentage (1st/.469), field-goal percentage defense (1st/.397), three-point field-goal percentage defense (3rd/.331), rebounding offense (1st/41.4), rebounding defense (2nd/34.4), rebounding margin (1st/+6.9), blocked shots (1st/4.63) and defensive rebounds (1st/28.9).

- In the 2009 Big South Tournament, the Highlanders averaged 94.7 points, while shooting 52.4 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from behind the 3-point arc. Defensively, they held their opponents to a 39.5 percent clip and recorded 28 blocks in three games, including 12 against UNC Asheville, which tied the school record.
