Top Seeds Set to Battle on Championship Saturday with NCAA Ticket on the Line

RADFORD, VA. -- Winners of 16 of its last 18, top-seeded Radford will make its sixth Big South Championship appearance Saturday afternoon when it hosts VMI in a 4 p.m. national televised (ESPN2) contest for the right to advance to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

HIGHLANDER HITS
- The Highlanders enter 20-11 following their 94-86 win over fourth-seeded UNC Asheville in Thursday's semifinals. It marks the first time since 1998-99 and seventh overall Radford has hit the 20-win plateau in the program's 35 years.
- Kenny Thomas (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs)  scored a career-high 35 points, tying a Big South Tournament record to lead three Highlanders in double figures. Radford set a new Big South semifinal record for points and tied a school record for blocks with 12 against the Bulldogs.
- Radford is attempting to win its second league tournament title since joining the Big South in 1985-86.
- The Highlanders are tied with two other teams for second-most tournament title appearances in league history.
- The No. 1 seed is 5-4 against the No. 2 seed in title games.
- The Highlanders' lone tournament championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament came 11 years ago (1997-98).
- The regular season champion has won four of the last five Big South Tournament Championships.
- This afternoon's meeting is the first between Radford and VMI in the conference tournament.
- Since going to the current Big South Tournament format, Radford has never hosted the championship.
- Radford is the first team in league history to win the regular season after finishing seventh the previous campaign.
- On Monday, junior Art Parakhouski (Minsk, Belarus) was named the 2008-09 Big South Player of the Year. Joining Parakhouski on the first team was Joey Lynch-Flohr (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax), while head coach Brad Greenberg was voted coach of the year.
- Parakhouski joins Jason Williams (1999-2000) as the only players in Radford history to earn player of the year honors.
- Parakhouski is 10th nationally in rebounds per game and ranks among Big South leaders in the following categories: scoring (5th/16.0), rebounding (2nd/11.0), field-goal percentage (2nd/.545), free-throw percentage (10th/.661), blocked shots (4th/1.45), defensive rebounds (2nd/7.1) and offensive rebounds (2nd/3.8).
- Thomas and Lynch-Flohr are also pouring in more than 10 points per outing with averages of 14.8 and 13.6, respectively.
- As a team, Radford ranks among the league's top three in the following categories: scoring offense (3rd/75.0), scoring defense (3rd/70.2), scoring margin (3rd/+4.8), field-goal percentage (1st/.466), field-goal percentage defense (1st/.398), three-point field goal percentage defense (2nd/.332), rebounding margin (1st/+6.3), blocked shots (1st/4.4) and defensive rebounds (1st/28.6).
- By virtue of winning the regular season, the Highlanders are guaranteed a postseason NIT berth.
