RADFORD – Following the program's 300th win on Friday night, Radford plays its second home match of the season when the Highlanders host Davidson on Wednesday night at Cupp Stadium in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Friday night's win began a stretch where the Highlanders play eight of 11 games at home, and just four more games away from home in 2009.
The Highlanders (2-1-0) started off their home schedule on the right foot, with a historic 1-0 win over ETSU. It was Radford's 300th win all-time, with the Highlanders improving to 300-274-56 since beginning varsity soccer in 1975.
Justin Zimmer lifted Radford to the win with his first half goal, finishing on a give-and-go off
James Jordan's pass. For Jordan, it was his first career assist and the freshman leads the Highlanders with three points (1g, 1a) this season.
Ryan Taylor was pressed into action for two critical second half saves, his only two of the match, to earn his first career shutout.
Davidson and Radford meet for the first time since the 2006 season, a 4-1 home win for Davidson on Sept. 10, and just the second meeting in the last six years. The Wildcats bring a 2-1-0 record to Radford, and lead the all-time series with the Highlanders 2-6-1.
Wednesday night's game is Radford's last tuneup for Big South action, which begins Saturday night (Sept. 19) at Liberty. The Highlanders rallied last year with two second half goals to earn a 2-1 win over the Flames at Cupp Stadium.
The Highlanders were picked in a tie for fifth in the league's preseason poll.
Radford returns home for a two-game set that begins by hosting Gardner-Webb on Sept. 26 and bookends the homestand with a visit from No. 3 North Carolina (Sept. 8 poll) on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
