Men's Soccer Hosts Gardner-Webb Saturday; Game Time Moved to 5 p.m.

RADFORD - After a positive result in its Big South opener, Radford opens the home portion of its league schedule Saturday night when the Highlanders host Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m.

The Highlanders (2-2-1, 0-0-1 Big South) welcome the Runnin' Bulldogs (4-1-0, 1-0-0) to Cupp Stadium for the first time on Saturday.  Gardner-Webb is in its second season as a Big South conference member.

Last Saturday (Sept. 19), Radford kicked off its Big South schedule for the fourth straight season with rival Liberty, playing to a scoreless double-overtime draw.  Even though the Highlanders couldn't find the back of the net in 110 minutes, Radford opened its conference schedule with a positive result for the eighth time its last ten Big South season openers.

Saturday night's game was the first Big South match played, league-wide, in 2009.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Taylor made five saves for Radford, including four in the second half, to post his second career shutout.  Radford had to weather 11 Liberty shot attempts in the second half, though few materialized into premium scoring opportunities.

The Highlanders dropped their only Big South meeting to the Runnin' Bulldogs, 1-0, on the road last September.  Radford is 2-3-0 against Gardner-Webb, all-time.

Gardner-Webb, which started the season 3-0-0 and was ranked 11th in the Week 1 NSCAA/adidas South Atlantic Region rankings, beat Presbyterian 1-0 in its Big South opener on Wednesday night.

Following Radford's Big South home opener Saturday, the Highlanders step back out of conference to host No. 2 North Carolina at Cupp Stadium on Tuesday (Sept. 29) night at 7 p.m.  Admission for Tuesday's game is $5, and free for students with ID.
