Radford women's soccer will put a lid on its season-opening five game homestand on Tuesday night, when the Highlanders host Concord in a 6 p.m. contest at Cupp Stadium.
Following a 2-0 start to the 2009 season, the Highlanders are 2-2-0 after a pair of weekend losses.
A slow start on Friday against East Tennessee State put Radford down 1-0 in the 10th minute, but the Highlanders pressured in the second half and found the equalizer in the 86th on
Justine Dugger's free kick goal from 35 yards out. But in the 88th minute, the Buccaneers fired right back with the game-winner to earn the 2-1 result.
Sunday's match against Marshall saw a fast start for Radford, as the Highlanders had their best opportunity in the 12th minute when senior
Jackie Cozza's shot from just inside the penalty box rang the crossbar, and sophomore
Melony Davis's rebound try sailed over the net. A pair of second half goals lifted Marshall to a 2-0 win.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Lisa Lubke made nine saves over the two games, including a stop on Sunday on a one-on-one try in the 31st minute when she challenged Marshall's Erika Duncan outside the goal box on a near side break.
The Highlanders and Mountain Lions will meet for the fifth time, with Radford on the winning end of the previous four matchups including last season's 5-1 win at Cupp Stadium on Sept. 12. Concord is 3-1-0 in 2009 and 1-0-0 in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
Radford continues its non-conference schedule at Longwood on Friday (Sept. 11) before returning home to face American on Sunday (Sept. 13).
