RADFORD, Va. -- Looking to remain undefeated at home, the Radford men's soccer team will play their fourth of five contests at Cupp Stadium this season when they host league-foe Winthrop in a 6 p.m. tilt Saturday evening.

The Highlanders enter 5-4-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the Big South following a 2-1 setback at first-place High Point Wednesday night.

Through its first three home games, Radford is outscoring its visitors by a 7-1 margin, including a 5-1 win over Presbyterian two weeks ago.

In addition to their unblemished home mark, the Highlanders lead the league in attendance, averaging 1,233 fans per contest, which doubles last year's mark.

Junior Iyiola Awosika (London, England / Aylesbury Grammar) continues to lead the club in goals (5) and total points (13). Mike Handlin (Opal, Va. / Liberty-Bealeton), who has found the back of the net in Radford's last two contests, is second on the club with four goals, while tied for the team lead in assists (3).

Winthrop, which played the Highlanders to a 2-2 draw in Rock Hill a year ago, comes into the 28th all-time (12-12-3) meeting 4-6-1 and 2-2-0 after a 6-3 triumph over VMI Oct. 12.

Radford's last win over the Eagles came on Oct. 13, 2004.

MEN'S SOCCER CONTINUES COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS

The Highlanders will continue collect new and used soccer cleats at their remaining two home contests. Brian Gwanzura / Boots 4 Brian and Passback's collection boxes will be located at the entrance to Cupp Stadium.

The Radford men's soccer team has teamed with Beans and Rice to collect for their “Weekend Food for Kids Backpack Project.”

With a goal of reaching 100 children, the Highlanders will also set up collection boxes for new and used backpacks at their remaining home contests.

Beans and Rice is a community economic development organization that builds assets and develops capacities in low and moderate-income families through economic and educational programs.
