BOX SCORE
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Sophomore
Mary Wiley netted a strike in the fourth minute, but the Highlanders fell 2-1 against Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at Greene-Harbison Field.
Wiley scored Radford's (9-6-1, 3-2-1 BSC) only goal just 3:14 into the match. Gardner-Webb keeper Chelsea Hearne came out of the box to chase a ball down, but Wiley slid the ball out of her reach to put Radford ahead, 1-0.
The pass to Wiley came from
Tyler Drake, the league's reigning Defensive Player of the Week, who tallied her third helper of the season.
Gardner-Webb (4-8-3, 1-3-1 BSC) wasted no time and exactly two minutes later, Meagan Reynolds put a shot in the back of the net from the right side to even the score, 1-1.
36 seconds before halftime, Gardner-Webb went up for good on a score from Jessica Casper, whose first goal of the season proved to be the game-winner.
The Big South Preseason Defensive Player of the Year
Lisa Lubke made her season debut in the second half and made six saves for the Highlanders.
Radford held the advantage in shots, 21-19, but the Runnin' Bulldogs had three more shots on goal.
The Highlanders will commence a three-game home stand to end the season, beginning Friday against Liberty at 7 p.m.
