RUTV: RADFORD BLANKS LIBERTY, 5-0

??

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. –
Five goals and a multi-assist game by freshman Julie Ruh'e led to a 5-0 blanking over in-state rival Liberty in women's soccer action Friday night.

The five goals were the most scored in a conference game since Oct. 9, 2004 when the Highlanders netted five against Coastal Carolina.

“We really wanted to come out and redeem ourselves after last weekend,” said senior captain Kathleen Jarvis. “Everyone did a great job of talking and stepping up and I was extremely proud of that.”

Radford (10-6-1, 4-2-1 BSC) didn't waste anytime getting on the scoreboard. Just 3:55 into the game, Radford sent a corner kick across the box. The ball was batted around by numerous players and found the foot of freshman Kathryn Johnston on the goal line. Johnston collected the loose ball and put in the game's first goal.

Radford would go into the half with a 2-0 lead thanks to an own goal by Liberty (5-9-2, 2-4-0 BSC) in the 26th minute.

In the second frame, Ruh'e sent a long pass up field to a charging Latrice Lee, who beat the keeper from the edge of the 18-yard box for the third goal of the match.

3:57 seconds later, Ruh'e recorded her second assist of the game when she sent a corner kick to the farside of the field and directly to a wide-open Jarvis who scored her first goal of the season.

With just 31 seconds remaining, Megan Rhodes added the final Highlander tally of the game of a rebound of her own shot.

Liberty's most promising opportunity came in the first half on a cross from the nearside. Laura Nyholt got a head on it, but it hit the crossbar and preserved the Highlanders lead.

Radford held the advantage in shots 14-10 and corners 10-4. Freshman goalkeeper Che' Brown recorded her seventh shutout of the season.

“Whenever you play Liberty you have to come out focused and be ready to play and our girls came out ready tonight,” said head coach Ben Sohrabi.

Radford will face off against High Point on Sunday at 2 p.m.
