CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Freshman goalkeeper Che' Brown of the Radford women's soccer team was tabbed Big South Defensive Player of the Week, announced the League office Tuesday.
The Highlanders went 2-0 last week due in large part to Brown's play. She has helped Radford gain momentum heading into the regular season finale on Friday and Big South Championships next week.
Brown recorded her seventh and eighth shutouts of the season and made nine total saves with her two victories over Liberty and High Point this weekend.
She made two crucial stops against High Point, including an outstretched punch out on a shot that looked as if it were heading right under the crossbar. Five minutes later, High Point's Sara Rager blasted a hard shot five yards away from Brown, but she came up big, making the save on the nearside post.
Brown is also a nationally-ranked goalkeeper, as she is 18th in save percentage (.872) and 28th in goals-against average (.656).
“Che' has had a great year and was big this past weekend helping us get two needed results,” said head coach
Ben Sohrabi. “I am proud of her and our defense as a whole. Last weekend was a great combined effort.”
