RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team will conclude the 2010 regular season on Friday in a matchup with VMI on "Senior Night" at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.
Prior to the game, the Highlanders (11-6-1, 5-2-1 BSC) will recognize its seven seniors,
SharDavia Bell,
Kayla Enterline,
Molly Hill,
Kathleen Jarvis,
Latrice Lee and
Alex Traughber, alongside fellow classmate and co-captain
Jourdan McDaniel, who is redshirting this season.
Radford holds a commanding lead in the all-time series against the Keydets, 7-1-0. VMI used two second half goals to pick up its lone series win in last year's matchup in Lexington, 2-1. Hill scored Radford's only goal in the 42nd minute on a cross from Bell.
Over the course of the season, Radford has seen a favorable blend of stifling defense and a relentless offensive mindset. The Highlanders are outscoring their opponents 34-11 and outshooting them 307-205, with a 40-shot advantage on goal. Freshman Julie Ruh'e has seven goals and five assists on the season and newly converted midfielder
Kathryn Johnston netted two game-winners over the weekend and now has three goals.
Alongside the attack, the defense has been nationally-ranked for the second half of the season. Radford stands among the nation's elite in save percentage (7th/0.885), shutout percentage (14th/0.556) and goals-against average (20th/0.596).
Radford has ten shutouts on the year thanks in large part to the goalkeeping of Che' Brown, the reigning Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Brown has recorded eight shutouts and has made 75 saves on the year. Her 0.66 goals-against average so far is the second-best mark in program history.
The Highlanders are currently fourth in the conference standings and jumped a spot ahead of High Point thanks to Sunday's victory over the Panthers.
VMI enters Friday's game with a 3-14-1 (2-5-1 BSC) record. Amanda Berrios has scored four of VMI's nine goals on the season, and Christelle Ndongo and Sarah Strand have each found the back of the net twice.
