BOX SCORE
CLINTON, S.C. – A penalty kick by senior
Latrice Lee in the 81st minute allowed Radford women's soccer to extend their winning streak to four games and remain unbeaten in league play with a 2-1 victory over Presbyterian Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Radford (8-4-0, 2-0-0 BSC) snapped Presbyterian's three-game winning streak and handed the Blue Hose their first conference loss of the season.
After falling behind 1-0 in the 5th minute on a one-touch, left footed goal from Presbyterian's Kate Baker, Radford finally countered in the 73rd on a shot from sophomore
Mary Wiley. Wiley netted the equalizer on a blast from the corner of the box, beating the Blue Hose keeper Sarah Beth Anderson.
Eight minutes later, Lee would convert the go-ahead goal and ultimately the game-winner on the penalty kick.
The goal for Wiley was her fourth of the season and was the third consecutive game with a score. Lee's tally was her second of the season.
"I was proud of our team for coming from behind on the road," said head coach
Ben Sohrabi. "We have to finish scoring chances better. Our defense has bailed us out this season and it was good to see our offense bail the defense out."
The Highlanders outshot Presbyterian (4-7-1, 1-1-0 BSC) by an astounding 36-2 margin and controlled the corner kick advantage as well, 13-1. The 36-shot total was highest since the season opener, when the Highlanders fired 49 attempts against Southern Virginia.
Radford begins the home stretch of the 2010 schedule, when it plays five of its last seven games at home, beginning with Charleston Southern Friday at 7 p.m.
