ELON, N.C. – Playing its second contest in as many nights, and third in four days, Radford fell on the road to Elon, 3-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday evening.
“Elon is a very good team that is well coached and it was a very tough game for us on limited rest,” said Radford head coach
Marc Reeves. “I was proud of our groups effort for the most part and hopefully this will make us stronger in the long run.”
The Highlanders grabbed the early advantage on a 25th minute strike from forward
Iyiola Awosika (London, England / Aylesbury Grammar). The junior's team-leading eighth goal of the 2010 campaign came off an assist from
Camden Brown (Knoxville, Tenn. / Karns).
In addition to setting up the game's first goal, Brown led Radford (6-7-3) with a pair of shots, both of which were on goal.
Elon (8-5-5) took the lead for good midway through the second half on a pair of goals from Gabe Latigue. Latigue's first strike came at the 64:01 mark while his eventual game-winner came less than eight minutes later.
Stephen Dilger added an insurance goal for the Phoenix with just under 13 minutes to play.
Elon finished with an 18-7 advantage in shots and a slight 4-3 edge in corners.
The Highlanders'
Joey Dennis (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn Park) recorded a game-high five saves.
Radford will wrap up its three-game road swing to conclude the regular season with a 7 p.m. tilt at conference-foe Gardner-Webb Friday evening.
