RADFORD, Va. – For the second consecutive year, the Radford track and field programs gave back to the community by participating in Project Linus.
Project Linus is an organization that provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” The non-profit organization also strives to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
“It's a great chance for us to bring our team together and have a lot of fun in a non-athletic setting,” commented head coach
Brent Chumbley. “It also gives everyone the opportunity to realize how lucky we are and how something so simple can mean so much to a young boy or girl.”
“Project Linus gives hope in the form of a blanket to children in the New River Valley who are going through a difficult time in their lives,” said junior
Aimee Veatch. “It is a joy for us to provide comfort and warmth to children in need. I hope that we, as a team, can continue to participate in Project Linus in the future.”
Altogether, Project Linus has distributed over three million blankets to children in need since its inception in 1995. The New River Valley/Radford Chapter was created in June 2000 and has distributed over 14,000 blankets.
