Radford will try and stretch a seven-game winning streak on Wednesday, when the Highlanders travel to East Tennessee State for a 2 p.m. meeting with the Buccaneers.
Wednesday's game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved because of the potential for bad weather.
This season's first meeting between Radford and East Tennessee State features a pair of teams on an upward trend, with the Highlanders at 8-2 in their last 10 games and ETSU at 7-3 in its last 10.
Radford's recent stretch of success includes a seven-game winning streak, leaving the Highlanders one win away from tying the school record of eight set in 1990. Two of the key elements in Radford's success have been pitching and defense. Over the seven game streak, the Highlander staff has a collective ERA of 2.08 while opponents are hitting just .214 off Radford pitching. Defensively, the Highlanders are fielding at a .979 clip, committing just six errors while turning 12 double plays (opponents have rolled just two). Radford's fielding percentage over the last seven games is 17 points higher than its percentage for the season (.962).
Offensively over the seven-game streak, Radford is hitting .276 as a team but has had key contributions from several players.
Raphael Turner, who carries an eight-game hitting streak, is 10-for-25 at the plate during Radford's winning streak with a .500 on-base percentage.
Matt Mack, whose bases-loaded double propelled the Highlanders to a Sunday win over UNC Asheville, has eight RBIs in the last seven games despite going just 5-for-27 at the plate.
Brett Mollenhauer is 8-for-25 (.320) with five RBIs, but has walked six times against four strikeouts (.452 OBP).
Matt Hillsinger, who hit .278 entering the seven-game streak, is now hitting .355 (11-for-38) for the season and six for his last 13 with four triples.
ETSU ran its record to 7-3 in the last 10 games with a three-game Atlantic Sun sweep of USC Upstate over the weekend. With the sweep, the Buccaneers have won each series they've played in this season.
Through their first 17 games, the Buccaneers have a hold on first place in the A-Sun at 13-4 overall and 3-0 in league affairs. ETSU leads the conference in pitching with a 4.40 staff ERA while Paul Hoilman enters the week with a .464 average, third-best in the A-Sun. Hoilman's nine homers are tops in the league, while his 29 RBIs are fourth. Last season, Hoilman was 5-for-8 in two games against the Highlanders.
The Buccaneers and Highlanders share just one common opponent this season – The Citadel. Both teams lost tournament games in Charleston to the Bulldogs. Radford and ETSU are scheduled to meet in Radford on April 27 at 3 p.m.
