SOFTBALL SPLITS AT LONGWOOD

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford rebounded with a 12-0 win in game two to earn a split at Longwood, Wednesday afternoon from Lancer Field. The Lancers (23-11) defeated the Highlanders, 8-3 in game one.

Radford (17-10) scored 11 runs in the first three frames and cruised to a 12-0 game two victory. The Highlanders pounded out 13 hits and were led at the plate by Shannon Keefe who went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBI and three runs scores.

Hope Creasy knocked in four runs with a pair of hits. Kristen Shifflett and Nichole Beall also had two hits. Shifflett recorded her sixth home run of the season, scored three runs and had two stolen bases.

Radford struck early, scoring four runs in the top of the first on five consecutive hits. Keefe put the Highlanders on the board with a RBI double followed by a two-run single by Creasy and capped off by a RBI single by Michelle Beall.

The Highlanders tacked on five more in the second on a two-run single by Keefe and a two-run double by Creasy.

A sac fly by Nichole Beall and a run-scoring double by Keefe made it 11-0 in the third.

Shifflett closed out the scoring with her long ball in the fifth.

Kellie Snooks picked up the win in 3.2 inning of work. She scattered five hits and struck out one.

In game one, Longwood scored three runs in the first inning and did not look back in an 8-3 victory.

Radford took advantage of two Longwood errors and a wild pitch to score a run in the top of the first. With one out, Nichole Beall singled to left, advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a throwing error by the catcher. She scored with two outs when the throw on a grounder to short pulled the first baseman off the bag.

Longwood countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double by Ashley Kramer and a two-out run-scoring single by Nichole Simmons. Briana Wells added another run in the second on a leadoff home run to left.

The Lancers scored three more in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run long ball to right center by Brooke Short and added another run in the fifth to make it 8-1.

Radford pushed two across in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Creasy and RBI double by Taylor Cunningham.

Wells picked up the complete game win for the Lancers, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Chelsea Kelley suffered the defeat. She surrendered seven runs on seven hits in four innings of work with four strikeouts.

Jackie Jenkins made her collegiate debut with two innings of relief. She struck out the first batter she faced in the fifth and finished allowing a run on five hits.

Morgan Eye recorded her first collegiate hits as the Highlanders finished with seven.

The Highlanders return home for Big South play on Friday, April 1 hosting Gardner-Webb in doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. and conclude with a single game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
