Radford plays its fifth consecutive midweek game away from home on Wednesday night at Virginia, a team ranked in the top five nationally in the collegiate baseball polls.
The Highlanders are in search of their first midweek victory since March 17, a 9-2 win over North Carolina A&T. Radford is 1-3 in midweek affairs this season.
Virginia, which enters midweek play following a series loss at NC State, fell from the top spot in the Division I polls. UVa was No. 1 in the Baseball America and Rivals.com polls for the past six weeks, but the Cavaliers dropped to No. 3 in the Rivals.com rankings, No. 4 in the Baseball America poll and No. 5 in the Collegiate Baseball, ESPN/USA Today Coaches and NCBWA polls.
The Cavaliers will face James Madison at home on Tuesday before entertaining Radford on Wednesday night.
Radford, which dropped its first home Big South series in two years over the weekend to Charleston Southern, finished with a 9-3 win over the Buccaneers in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday to salvage the set.
Entering the week,
Tyren Rivers has a 10-game hitting streak, raising his average to .315 on the season.
Raphael Turner has reached safely in 16 consecutive games, dating back to March 9, and is hitting .325 for the year.
For Virginia, Phil Gosselin enters the week with a .407 batting average, fourth in the ACC, along with a career-best 12-game hitting streak. Tyler Cannon's .376 average ranks 10th in the ACC.
Last season, Radford hosted then-No. 7 Virginia at Salem Memorial Ballpark on March 31, a 12-2 loss for the Highlanders. The return game to Charlottesville on April 15 was washed out in the fourth inning.
Following Wednesday's meeting with Virginia, the Highlanders welcome Liberty to town for a three-game Big South series, beginning on Friday.
