RADFORD, Va. – After opening the 2010 season with four straight contests on the road, first-year head coach
Marc Reeves and his Radford Highlanders will entertain conference-rival Liberty in their home / league opener Saturday evening at Cupp Stadium.
Coming off a 1-1 draw to Georgia Southern on the final day of the Flash Gordon Motors Invitational Sunday afternoon in High Point, N.C., Radford enters its first of five home games this season 1-2-1 overall.
Despite the tie, the Highlanders finished with a 24-14 advantage in shots, including 14 on goal. Radford's shot total was the most in a contest since Oct. 14, 2006.
Through four contests, the Highlanders are averaging 14.5 shots and 5.75 corner kicks per game.
Four of Radford's five goals this season have come in the first 14 minutes of the contest.
Iyiola Awosika (London, England / Aylesbury Grammar) leads the Highlanders in scoring with a pair of strikes, while
Bernardo Ulmo (Sao Paulo, Brazil / South Kent) and
Mike Handlin (Opal, Va. / Liberty-Bealeton) have added a goal and assist each.
Liberty enters the 37th all-time meeting 3-1-1 following a 2-1 setback to Appalachian State Wednesday.
Phillip Asewah paces the Flames offensively with three goals and three assists (nine points) through five contests.
Liberty leads the series, 18-11-7.
Radford will enjoy a week break before returning to Cupp Stadium to entertain in-state foe Longwood, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
