RADFORD Va. –
The Radford women's soccer team returns home to continue their non-conference slate when they play host to Campbell on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.

The Highlanders and Fighting Camels will meet for the fourth time on the pitch, with Radford holding a slight advantage in the series, 2-1-0. Campbell recorded their one series win in last season's meeting, edging the Highlanders 1-0 in Buies Creek, N.C.

Julie Ruh'e and Che' Brown swept the Big South weekly honors by being tabbed Attacking Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the League office on Wednesday.

Ruh'e converted the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute during Radford's first-ever matchup with Iona at the Best Western Huntington Mall Invitational on Sunday. For the tournament, she tallied four shots on goal with the one score en route to making the All-Tournament team. The goal gave Ruh'e three on the season, tying her for the team lead.

Brown helped Radford to a 1-1 record in the tournament in Marshall, recording her second collegiate shutout against Iona, while making five saves in each game over the weekend.

“It is nice to have two of our players get some notoriety for their work, but I consider both awards team awards, as both had considerable support from their teammates,” said head coach Ben Sohrabi.

Radford (3-1-0) opened its 2010 season with three wins over first-time opponents, Southern Virginia, Francis Marion and Iona, while falling by a late strike in the 78th minute to tournament host Marshall, 1-0, over the weekend.

The defense has been nearly impeccable, recording three shutouts, while allowing just one goal.

Offensively, Radford has recorded an impressive 20.2 shots per game and has outscored them 11-1. Freshmen Ruh'e and Sahar Aflaki lead the team with three goals apiece.

Campbell is off to a 3-2-1 start, which includes wins over Big South members High Point and Coastal Carolina. The Camels' attack is led by Olga Ekblom, who has four goals on the year and Kaili Terry with four assists.

“Our team is progressing and we are looking forward to two big tests this week with Campbell and Old Dominion.”
