GAME NOTES
RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team, ranked first in the Big South, will face No. 2 Winthrop in a battle for the top spot on homecoming Saturday, Oct. 15 at Cupp Stadium.
Radford has begun league play with five consecutive shutouts, a feat no Highlander team in program history has accomplished. The 5-0 conference record is also something only one team has achieved (1999).
Radford has now gone 463:22 without surrendering a goal and with the clean sheet Thursday night, the Highlanders surpassed the Cupp Stadium record for shutouts in a single season.
Winners of nine of their last 11 matches, the Highlanders possess a 7-1 record at home and have blanked the opposition six times. The team is one win shy of tying the Cupp Stadium record of eight wins in a single season.
Playing behind a stout defense that features
Tyler Drake (Palmrya, Va./Fluvanna County),
Sydney Golden (Lexington, Ky./Paul L. Dunbar),
Megan Rhodes (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) and
Stephanie Herb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary), Radford has only allowed nine goals all year.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Che' Brown (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) ranks third in the nation in goals-against average (.163) and save percentage (0.95). In addition to her national recognition, Brown has recorded five shutouts and a perfect 6-0 mark.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Winthrop brings an 8-5, 4-1 Big South record into to Cupp Stadium on homecoming Saturday. The Eagles are second in the conference in goals (32) and lead in goals per game (2.46). Courtney Durbin and Krystyna Freda have netted nine goals apiece, tops in the league in that category.
